Poltrona Frau, in collaboration with EU-CHAIN, the official distributor of the brand in Taiwan, is officially launching the Asia Pacific Design Competition, inviting creatives from the region to leave an indelible mark on the history of design. The challenge is to imagine the next timeless icon: an armchair that combines innovation, elegance, and sustainability while embodying the brand’s unique artisanal spirit.
This new initiative is inspired by the success of previous projects, such as the 2015 Taiwan Design Competition, where Shi-Chieh Lu’s “Ming’s Heart” armchair captivated a global audience with its ability to blend Eastern and Western aesthetics. Building on this spirit, the 2025 competition aims to showcase emerging talents from a wide range of markets in the Asia Pacific region.
Participants are asked to design a single armchair that reflects Poltrona Frau’s unique vision, using leather as the main material and demonstrating a focus on innovation, functionality, and sustainability.
The selection will be overseen by a jury composed of an external panel and an internal one. The external panel includes renowned designers such as Italian designer Roberto Lazzeroni, architect Michele De Lucchi, the international interior design & architecture studio AB Concept, and the British architectural firm Foster+Partners. The internal jury consists of several members from Poltrona Frau, including Nicola Coropulis, CEO Poltrona Frau, Leonardo Allasia, Director of Global Marketing & Communications, Mirko Splendiani, Director of Product Design & Development, Emanuele Macarra, Global Sales Director Custom Interiors, Marco Di Mattia, VP Sales EMEA, Federico Muzio, VP Sales APAC, Greater China & India, and Francesco Secchiaroli, VP Sales Americas.
The winner will see their design produced and showcased at the 2027 Salone del Mobile in Milan, joining the prestigious group of creatives that collaborate with Poltrona Frau.
